Michael Toland – Composer
Music has been part of Michael Toland’s life from the very beginning.
The son of a session guitarist father and vocalist mother, Michael grew up surrounded by the sounds of the studio — a world that would shape his lifelong passion for composing and performing.
He began studying guitar as a youth, developing both technical skill and an instinctive feel for melody and emotion. By his early career, Michael had become an in-demand session player, jingle writer, and vocalist in New York City, where he honed his versatility across genres from pop and rock to orchestral and jazz.
Driven by a love for musical storytelling, he went on to form a classical rock group that was managed by industry veteran John Cher, performing an innovative blend of symphonic and progressive sounds. Michael’s career as a performer expanded as he toured with Jeff Beck, Edgar Winter, and the legendary ensemble White Elephant featuring the Brecker Brothers, further deepening his musicianship and stage experience.
Transitioning naturally into composing, Michael began creating original music for film and television, combining his rich performance background with a cinematic sensibility. His work spans dramatic hybrid orchestral scores, soulful jazz themes, and contemporary acoustic and electronic soundscapes, reflecting both his technical mastery and emotional range as a storyteller.
Today, Michael continues to evolve as a Los Angeles–based composer, bringing a lifetime of musical experience — from session rooms to world stages — to every project he undertakes.
